German Embassy Economic Cooperation and Development Undersecretary Sülzen met with women entrepreneurs in Konya 13.07.2021

Angelika Sülzen, Undersecretary for Economic Cooperation and Development of the German Embassy, ​​met with Syrian women in Konya, to whom they provided loans, within the scope of the project carried out with the cooperation of Germany-Turkey to support micro-entrepreneurs and to include women more in business life.

Angelika Sülzen, Undersecretary for Economic Cooperation and Development of the German Embassy, ​​within the scope of the "Financial Participation of Refugees and Host Communities in Turkey" project carried out by the Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (Sparkassenstiftung) with the financial support of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Sparkassenstiftung Turkey Representative Jörg Teumer, Financial Sector Coordinator Amine Malik and Turkish Waste Prevention Foundation (TİSVA) Central Anatolia Regional Coordinator Ahmet Yılmaz visited micro-entrepreneur women in Konya.

Undersecretary Angelika Sülzen said that they supported both Turkish and Syrian entrepreneurs in Turkey with the project funded by Germany.

Expressing her pleasure to be in Turkey, Sülzen said, "I am very happy to be here and have the opportunity to talk to our Syrian women entrepreneurs. My favorite things are microcredit and microfinance. Microcredit and microfinance are very good concepts as concepts, concepts that should be in every society. It is also very important for women's independence and freedom, for their economic independence." she said.

TİSVA Central Anatolia Regional Coordinator Ahmet Yılmaz stated that small supports can sometimes be of vital importance for entrepreneurs and said:

"Based on our cooperation with our German friends, we aim to help Syrian refugee women stand out in the society and contribute to their family budgets by providing capital, financial and educational support for Syrian refugees. We have loaned approximately 50 micro-entrepreneurs in Konya and provided capital support. Undersecretary Angelika and Sparkassenstiftung Turkey Representative Jörg wanted to meet with the women we support and see the work in place. We provide capital support to 50 micro-entrepreneurs in Konya, 400 micro-entrepreneurs in Ankara, 370 micro-entrepreneurs in Bursa and approximately 700 micro-entrepreneurs in Antep Nizip."

Sparkassenstiftung Turkey Representative Jörg Teumer expressed his pleasure to be in Konya and said:

"It is incredible to see what can be done even with very small amounts of micro-credit. It is very nice to see how creative women are, what they can do using their handicrafts, and how they can contribute to their families and the Turkish economy. We give our support to both Turkish and Syrian micro-entrepreneurs. I find our project important in terms of ensuring the unification of the society."
